KZUM seeks board members
After reaching its fall fundraising goals, KZUM is looking for new board members to guide it into the next phase of growth.
The Lincoln nonprofit radio station’s board of directors has vacancies which it now looks to fill. KZUM seeks applications from Lincoln area community leaders with experience in accounting, arts & entertainment, finance, fundraising, human resources, legal, marketing and/or the nonprofit sector.
KZUM has been on air since 1978, now operating with a four-person staff and nearly 100 on-air volunteer programmers serving Lincoln and Lancaster county. Known primarily for its decorated devotion to the blues, its programming features everything from rock and funk to jazz and local music — all in service of its mission to educate and build community through featuring diverse and independent voices.
Approved board members will each serve three-year terms starting December 2016. Visit KZUM.org to submit an application, due by Friday, Nov. 11. Inquiries may be directed to general manager Kerry Semrad at gm@kzum.org.

Virgin Mary Pistol Grip kickstarter to help new EP
Omaha rock band Virgin Mary Pistol Grip has new music on the way, and it’s looking for fans’ help finishing the product.
The band’s Kickstarter fund for its forthcoming EP Secret Codes is nearly halfway to its $5,000 goal with a week to go. Recording is in session, with help from Los Angeles-based producer Bob Marlette, who has worked with the likes of Seether, Filter, Alice Cooper, Sebatian Bach and Atreyu. (Excellently, Marlette also has producer/co-writer credits on the Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure soundtrack).
VMPG’s crowdfund offers some cool perks, among them a custom-built Nintendo system, handwritten lyrics sheets and a lifetime guestlist spot. View them all and contribute here.

HN Radio gets spooky with Haunted Gautlet, ROAM podcast
All Hallow’s Eve approaches and HN Radio has what you need to get spooky.
This week’s offerings include new tracks from Haunted Gauntlet, which sample his new fright night album S P O O L (No. 35). We’ve also added a few harrowing throwbacks in Bus Gas’ “Desert Swagger” and podcast/audiozine ROAM’s “Are You Afraid Of The Roam?” (remember that?).
The playlist also includes Life Is Cool and The Faint, both of which are playing weekend concerts (the latter, back from a month-long tour on Halloween night). Rounding things out are live tracks by Lush Bruise Crew, The Morbs, Miniature Horse and Eric In Outerspace. (Just in case, we slipped our On The Record podcast review of Conor Oberst’s Ruminations at the end).
Listen to the playlist below, or stream at the top of the site.
