HN compilation release shows this weekend; Hullabaloo lineup announced; Montee Men releases first song

It’s finally here: This weekend we release the third volume of our Nebraska music compilation with twin shows in Lincoln and Omaha.

The album, which is released on mixed-purple vinyl thanks to a successful Kickstarter campaign, includes ten tracks from some of Nebraska’s most diverse sounding artists, gorgeous cover art by Jake Fyfe and hand-crafted liner notes by Hear Nebraska staff.

See the full tracklist here. Later today, we’ll premiere Ladyfinger’s “Junk City” from the record. Last week, we premiered “The Farmer’s Hill” from The Bottle Tops.

To celebrate, we’ll be at Zoo Bar tonight for a show with Jake Bellows, The Bottle Tops and Universe Contest. RSVP here. Tomorrow night in Omaha, we’ll be at The Waiting Room for Ladyfinger, Jake Bellows and Both (RSVP).

Pick up your copy of the vinyl at one of the shows and say hello.

Over at The Bourbon tonight, Icky Blossoms, Oketo and John Klemmensen and The Party play for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Earthstock (RSVP).

Shamrock’s in Omaha hosts Hell Knight tonight, featuring hardcore, metal and progressive music with Megaton, Rift, Super Moon and Odinson, all Nebraska bands. RSVP to the show here.

Omaha country band Clarence Tilton’s album release show at Reverb Lounge on Saturday and Evan Bartels plays at Meadowlark Coffee on Sunday.

As always, check out our calendar for a fuller listing of shows, and if you don’t see one you’re looking for, we’d love for you add it by hitting the “Contribute” button.

And speaking of Meadowlark Coffee’s Sunday series, here’s a video feature from earlier this week by our JP Davis:

Hullabaloo music festival announced its 2015 lineup yesterday. The three-day festival, in its fifth year, will take place at Sokol Park in Bellevue again. The festival is put on by members of Kris Lager Band. One day passes are $20 and weekend passes are $60. Find them here.

Similar to last year, the festival hosts a mix of national and local acts. Robert DeLong seems to be the effective headliner. The electronic artist released his EP Long Way Down in November on Glassnote Records. Notably, funk and soul mover-and-shaker Andy Frasco plays this year too. Kris Lager Band was featured in a documentary about Frasco after the two groups toured together.

Lastly, a song to bang your head to this weekend and an Omaha band to follow.

Montee Men is the relatively new trio of John Laughlin, Chris Kelley and Matt Baum. They’ve played just a few shows, but with collective experience from acts like Pro-Magnum (Laughlin), Back When (Kelley) and Desaparecidos (Baum) to their names, the trio headed right for the studio this year with ARC’s Ben Brodin.

The band cut its first EP and released a song from it earlier this week:

Kelley told us in email the band considers itself a “power” trio, and we hear elements of metal, sludge punk and an underbelly of big, dark classic rock. Follow them on Facebook here. We’ll keep you updated on the release of the EP. Shows, too. But it might be a bit on that front. Baum is currently on tour with his Conor Oberst-led punk band, the aforementioned Desaparecidos.
