In the six-plus years of Hear Nebraska, few things have been “staff tradition.” Aside from its editor position, the editorial ship has morphed with its needs and the makeup of its personnel. But as our programming menu grows and our editorial coverage scope widens, the ensuing workload requires more and more of the entire staff, and that includes interns.
So we were lucky, as we often are, that our Spring 2017 cohort was as up to the task as any. Lauren Farris, Connor Lepert, Zach Visconti and Bach Mai all rose to the challenge of ramped-up responsibilities and the inherently larger plate that comes with a smaller crop of interns.
Beginning with the marketing side, Bach Mai was heavily involved with getting the Good Living Tour and Lincoln Calling launches off the ground. He wrote social posts and press releases, helped coordinate our Good Living Tour promo trip and executed countless other types of tasks (all while organizing and executing this awesome new festival).
For editorial, we had the benefit of two returning multimedia interns in Connor Lepert and Lauren Farris, both of whom continued to submit engaging video work and shot a boatload of photos. The best of their semester is below.
That leaves writer Zach Visconti, who tackled perhaps our most impactful piece of the semester, on arts and humanities funding, while learning the ropes through contributing to our news column. Raw at the start, he showed consistent and marked improvement, the marker of any successful internship.
Celebrate the best of the editorial staff below.
