[Editor's note: A Conversation is an HN series that features two disparate members Nebraska's music scene interviewing each other about what they do best. This is part one. We hope you learn a little.]
It always takes a bit of explanation. Yes, you interview each other, and no, there aren't any rules.
As a new series, A Conversation has paired Doe Eyed designer Eric Nyffeler with musician Dan McCarthy, KRNU and UNL's Rick Alloway with electronic artist Spencer Munson, and Lincoln Calling's Jeremy Buckley with Damon Lee, a UNL digital arts assistant professor. Each interview has yielded incisive questions and thoughtful answers, and each interview has gone past 30 minutes with no time constraints. When you're getting to know someone, you always provide the proper background, and you bring the best stories you can to the table.
Above all, though, it's the few minutes after the recorder is turned off — or after I ask, "Do either of you have any other questions for each other?" — that this series is all about. It's when two disparate members of the music scene shake hands. It's when they say, "Remember to tell me when your next concert is, and I'll stop by," or in the case of House of Loom's Brent Crampton, owner and partner, and Omaha Performing Arts' Kendra Ingram, it's when they say they hope to collaborate in the near future.
