Rick Alloway Knows Radio | A Conversation

[Editor's note: A Conversation is a HN series that features two disparate members Nebraska's music scene interviewing each other about what they do best. This is part one. Read part two tomorrow. We hope you learn a little.]

Rick Alloway couldn’t betray his training as an interviewer, and rightly so. As we arranged to meet with Spencer Munson — an electronic dance music maker and promoter — Alloway needed to know more about his subject in advance of the conversation.

After all, Alloway’s more than 25 years of experience as general manager of 90.3 KRNU, along with work as a professor and other jobs in journalism, has afforded an untold number of interviews. And while his answers to Munson’s questions here are thoughtful and complete, it seems his tendency to be the one asking questions allowed Munson more time to speak.

Nonetheless, Alloway talks about the early days of KRNU, the rotation of music directors and specialty shows and how radio can help propel indie bands into a larger market:
