Homegrown Film Festival kicks off Lincoln Calling tonight; KZUM Pledge Drive thanks; Freakabout and AYGAMG recording

Lincoln Calling, Lincoln’s six-night, multi-venue music festival kicks off tonight with Homegrown Film Festival at The Bourbon. RSVP here.

The festival is nearly a week of community and camaraderie, staging some of the best Nebraska bands working right now with impressive regional names: Universe Contest and White Mystery, Little Brazil and The Kickback, AZP and Sidewalk Chalk, Twinsmith and Ages and Ages.

Stay tuned to Hear Nebraska for a media guide to Lincoln Calling later today, as well as coverage of live music, which starts Wednesday.

This week marks KZUM’s fall pledge drive. KZUM is the only community radio station in Nebraska and like most non-commercial radio station, it relies on pledges and contributions from listeners for livelihood.

Last night, Hear Nebraska FM, hosted on KZUM, participated in its leg of the pledge drive and raised more than $200 with the help of seven contributors.

We wanted to say “thank you” to those who pledged contributions and to anyone who tunes into the Monday night show to hear live, in-studio performances from Nebraska musicians across all genres. Likewise, thank you to Shannon Claire from X-Rated: Women in Music for stopping by the studio to hang out and help us talk to listeners about the benefits of community radio.

Next week, we’re back to regularly scheduled programming with All Young Girls Are Machine Guns in the studio. Tune in at 89.3 FM or online at kzum.org.
