Planes Mistaken for Stars has a rocky near past.

Their last release came out more than eight years ago, and the band temporarily dissolved shortly thereafter. The Illinois hardcore band only reunited and headed back out on the road in the last two years.

“We haven’t played here in about a decade, but we love it. We have family here; you know who you are,” said Gared O’Donnell (lead singer and guitarist) during the band’s O’Leaver’s set on Monday.

He may have been referring to the band recording its 2003 album, Up In Them Guts, with AJ Mogis, or maybe just the warm reception from their passionate Omaha fans. However they defined family, the band was in top form at O’Leaver’s as they played through their blistering catalog.
