Looking to see some lady music?
Check here every Thursday for the best shows of the week featuring lady musicians — whether it's a CD release show, tour kickoff, a national act's first time in town or simply a great lineup.
This week is pretty sparse — I was going to feature the Head and the Heart/Thao with the Get Down Stay Down show, but since it's sold out, I thought it would just be cruel. But don't worry, kids: Next week will be an explosion, with the Lincoln Calling music festival. So, aside from the below gems, don't spend any money in the next five days — you'll need it all for concerts in the next nine.
Want your show to be considered? Post your event in HN's statewide music calendar, then shoot me an email at xrated@hearnebraska.org with the who, what, when, where, how much and why.

WEDNESDAY, OCT. 12
LINCOLN CALLING: *Bears of Blue River, McCarthy Trenching, So-So Sailors, South of Lincoln
Three of the best Omaha bands (yes, it's true — South of Lincoln now lives north of Lincoln), and one of my favorite regional bands. Chicago's Bears of Blue River makes sassy, alt-indie music with dueling male-female voices and catchy lyrics and melodies. They played in town earlier this summer, and are not to be missed.
Duffy's Tavern, 1415 O St. in Lincoln
9 p.m.
$5; 18+
Bears of Blue River:
I am the Navigator/Leftmore/ The Benningtons at The Barley Street Tavern
I Am the Navigator also recently relocated to Omaha from Lincoln, and this is their first show since the move. I still haven't caught one of their performances — working at a bar during Husker season means you have no social life — but they list their influences as Jenny Lewis, the Decemberists, Death Cab for Cutie and Bright Eyes.
Barley Street Tavern, 2735 N. 62nd St. in Omaha
9 p.m.
$5; 21+

Hilary Stohs-Krause has blown through all but two of the 14 sci-fi and fantasy books her sisters lent her when she visited home (Wisconsin) over Labor Day. She gets her local music fix through HN and as a cocktail waitress at Duffy's Tavern. For more on Nebraska ladies making music, tune into the "X-Rated: Women in Music" radio show every Thursday from 1:05 to 3 p.m. CST at 89.3FM KZUM in Lincoln or streaming live at kzum.org.
