Enso remixes Twinsmith; OEAAs 10th anniversary showcase; Velveteen, Arliss Nancy, The Photo Atlas tonight

Omaha natives Enso remix Twinsmith’s “Dust,” DJ House of Loom Saturday

Saddle Creek Records released a remix today of Twinsmith’s “Dust” (from Alligator Years) by Omaha native (now San Francisco) producers Derrick Calloway and Seth Warrick of Enso. Saturday night, they DJ at House of Loom’s annual Vampire Masquerade.

Warrick says he and Calloway grew up heavily influenced by Midwest’s indie music scene, “especially Omaha. We are always watching for opportunities to take some of that flavor and translate it to the dance floor, and when Derrick and I heard Twinsmith’s new album, we immediately started thinking through which track we could remix (the album is just so good). We spent a few days independently listening and each reached the same conclusion: ‘Dust’ would be perfect.” What resulted ended up being our first release in the deeper realm of house music, and something we have been incredibly anxious to share.”

House of Loom proprietor Brent Crampton says the duo has “successfully penetrated the thriving underground San Fran dance music scene … It’s certainly a joy to see such a wonderful cross pollination of of sounds and scenes come together.”

(The Vampire Masquerade runs from 8 p.m.-2 a.m. at House of Loom.Masks encouraged; classy attire required. RSVP here.)

OEAAs puts 40 bands on seven Benson stages for 10th anniversary showcase

The Omaha Entertainment and Arts Awards are right around the corner, and the OEAA committee is making changes to its website and other operations Friday to accompany its multi-venue nominee showcase.

Freakabout, All Young Girls Are Machine Guns, Dominique Morgan, Marcey Yates and more will play the 10th annual OEAA Nominee Showcase tomorrow night. More than 40 bands will play across seven Benson venues in an effort to gain exposure to new fans and the OEAA voting academy.

The new website will assist in spreading the word, this year featuring links and information on each nominated act. Additionally, MCs at each venue will introduce each act on the billing, as well as inform fans, voters and musicians on how to get involved in the future. OEAA President Emily Engles says the showcase benefits both voters and musicians alike.

“Not all voters have a chance to see live music outside of their venue or their genre of expertise,” Engles says. “We provide them with a chance to see bands and artists they may not otherwise so they can complete an informed ballot.”

Like the summer showcase, its fall counterpart serves as a fundraiser for OEAA. All nominated acts are invited to donate their time and performance in the hopes that it will raise voter eyebrows.

Just $10 gets you a wristband for the entire showcase. Shows start at each venue at 8 p.m. RSVP here, and see the full schedule below:

Concert Round-up

Tonight, Velveteen kicks things off for the early crowd at White Rabbit (formerly Marz) from 7 to 9 p.m. The Lincoln-based quartet, comprising Myles Jasnowski, James Fleege, Kekeli Dawes and John Kosch, plays a largely improvisational set each Thursday at White Rabbit. Fleege says that group formed as a laid-back creative side project for its members. The band plays a mix of downtempo, soul and funk, and there is no rehearsal.

“Lincoln doesn’t really have that whole lounge vibe type of thing going on right now, and we all loved the idea of it,” Fleege says. “It’s refreshing because we just show up and see what happens each week.”

Keep up with Velveteen at its Facebook page here.

Tonight, Fort Collins alt-rockers band Arliss Nancy plays the Sydney with Omaha’s Anthems and John Klemmensen and the Party. The band stops through on their way to The Fest in Gainesville, Fla., next weekend. North Platte-native Guitarist/vocalist Cory Call gave us his top Fest picks in our preview story here. RSVP to the 9 p.m. show here.

Also tonight, Denver indie rock band The Photo Atlas makes a stop at O’Leaver’s with Cincinnati’s Leggy and Omaha punks No Thanks. The Photo Atlas blends dance, indie and punk rock into a unique hybrid sound. The band is currently on the front-end of a nine-day tour through the Midwest, supporting August 18 EP release Disregard, Disconnect. RSVP to the 9 p.m. show here.
