Hear Nebraska is looking for enterprising, self-starting multimedia, editorial, marketing and social media positions lasting Monday, January 8 to Friday, April 27, 2017. Working both remotely and at either of our Omaha or Lincoln offices,  you will help us cover, promote and present the state’s music community for 15-20 hours/week. Journalism, marketing or English majors are preferred, though others are accepted if they possess the following skills and attributes:


 Editorial Journalism | Internship Description


The state’s fastest-growing music nonprofit, Hear Nebraska (HN) seeks an enterprising, self-starting intern to serve as staff writer, charged with producing its daily morning news column (including reporting and gathering music scene developments, new releases, upcoming concerts, and more), as well as regular feature stories.

Working directly with HN’s editors in Lincoln or Omaha, this person will be challenged to quickly become Nebraska’s most plugged-in, well-connected music newshound. This position requires a passion for original reporting, the ability to juggle multiple assignments and a strong grasp on organizing/formatting multimedia web content.

In six years, HN has established itself as the state’s premier source for Nebraska music news. With a social reach of more than 30,000, HN broadcasts the state’s music industry and culture to a monthly audience of more than 27,000 (33% non-NE U.S.; 7% global) on its website alone. In 2016, HN produced 49 concerts in 16 NE cities, featuring 190 artists, and injecting $92,000 into the state’s music industry. That includes major projects such as The Good Living Tour and Lincoln Calling. In addition, HN workshops and other education resources aim at help NE artists succeed.

Author HN’s daily news column;
Pitch and pursue compelling story ideas;
Produce and publish regular feature stories and quick-turnaround concert reviews;
Post captivating images on HN’s social feeds;
Attend all Hear Nebraska-sponsored events;
Update HN’s events calendar;

The ideal candidate possesses:

Ability to learn quickly and process criticism constructively;
A knack for detailed, compelling storytelling;
Intermediate to strong reporting skills;

Multimedia Journalism | Internship Description


The state’s fastest-growing music nonprofit, Hear Nebraska (HN) seeks an enterprising, self-starting, multimedia intern to help us tell Nebraska’s music story through images and video.

In six years, HN has established itself as the state’s premier source for Nebraska music news, covering a wide variety of music genres and subjects statewide through words, photos, videos and audio. You would work directly with HN’s editors in either Lincoln or Omaha to capture and tell compelling stories about this cultural community with your camera (and phone). And your work would reach a major, global audience. Of the 27,000 visitors at hearnebraska.org each month, 7% are international. Our social media channels reach more than 20,000 followers.

Marketing/Program | Internship Description


The state’s fastest-growing music nonprofit, Hear Nebraska (HN) seeks an uber-efficient, detail-oriented, task-destroying badass to help develop and execute all of its events-related promotion and marketing.

This is a big gig, with a lot of responsibility. In 2016, HN produced 49 concerts in 16 NE cities, featuring 190 artists, and injecting $92,000 into the state’s music industry. That includes major projects such as The Good Living Tour and Lincoln Calling. Our website content reaches 27,000 people across the world each month, and we have more than 20,000 social media followers. In 2017, we’re expanding our programming to include education and even more concerts in even more places. Each event targets a unique audience, and represents its own challenges. We’ve always had great branding to work with. Now it’s time to step up our promotional game to effectively utilize it.

Aid in developing, and lead in executing and managing marketing plans for all Hear Nebraska events and programs (including physical and digital);
Aid in developing, and lead in executing and managing social media promotion (paid and non) for all events and programs, including general HN promotion;
Produce, maintain and grow Hear Nebraska’s Weekly Newsletter;
Create and disseminate press releases;
Represent HN at public events;

Requirements include:

Excellent written, verbal and social media communication skills;
Fluency across popular social media channels;
Experience developing and executing marketing, promotional or programming strategy, including timelines;
Bravery (speaking on stage and handing out fliers outside of shows will be necessary);
A passion for creating something cool from scratch.

The ideal candidate possesses:

Demonstrated ability to manage a busy social media handle;
Serviceable design skills (and a familiarity with the Adobe suite);
Experience helping to develop marketing assets;
A passion for Nebraska and its music.


Social Media Specialist | Internship Description


Hear Nebraska seeks a versatile social media whiz who can help develop, and execute, effective cross-channel strategy to deliver HN-related messaging to a wide audience. Working directly with HN’s editors in Lincoln or Omaha, this person must be able to create smart copy on the fly, produce and deploy long-term social media marketing campaigns and engage with followers and other organizations daily.

No pressure, but you’ll have a lot of eyes on your work, with the responsibility of engaging a social media reach of more than 32,000 across Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Your mission lies in finding new and different ways to promote HN and its endeavors in an ever-changing online landscape.
