On Adult Film, an album that was critically noted for pop-rock friendliness and presence, the new music video for “You Scare Me To Death” draws eyes to the still-murky, still-horrified side of Tim Kasher’s palate.
The video, which was directed by Kasher and shot by John Sturdy, premiered this morning on the German website Musik Express. (Kasher is currently on tour in Germany.) The events of the video follow the song’s lyrics with a mostly faithful stride. Kasher is depicted with actress Gwynedd Stuart as a portrait of excessive, American Beauty-esque, surburban content: a life so ordinary and repetitive that psychological horror creeps in.
The ethereal, but ominous, wave of the song rests on Kasher’s guitar-picking, not unlike that found on Adult Film‘s far sweeter closer “A Lullaby (Sort Of),” but shadowed and shaded eerily by the squealing saw playing of Sarah Holtschlag.
Adult Film was released on Saddle Creek in October. You can listen to Hear Nebraska’s review of the record here or an extended interview with Tim Kasher here.
