It's not the 14-song, artists-on-artists behemoth of Free Spirit : Lost Soul, but Stonebelly's new sophomore album Perspectives & Perceptions is still meaty.
Its cover adorned with a painting from Lincoln artist John Barron, the album still bites off humanistic meditations from many angles: the nostalgia of the open road, considering faith's relationship to the devil and raising awareness on a litany of modern corruptions and crimes in "New Revolution." Replete with the newfound garnish and groove of multiple horn parts, Stonebelly's central trio of Mike Hollon (guitar/vocals), Kevin Korus (drums/vocals) and David Mejia (bass/vocals) — who replaced Scott Dworak as the group's live bassist last year — is free to loosen up a bit, as they did Monday night on Hear Nebraska FM.
In between performing songs from their new album, which is out officially this Saturday at a Zoo Bar release show with Rock Paper Dynamite, the group sat down to discuss achieving some of the throwback, analog vibrance on Perspectives & Perceptions, as well as it being a record for the common person.
