Bus Gas’ third LP, Snake Hymns, isn’t an exploration so much as a guided tour that warps, pleasures and, just occasionally, accosts the senses. That’s what makes the Nebraska ambient drone trio’s music both ensnaring and unsettling. It’s hardly a blank slate. Rather, it’s a conveyor belt or an escalator. Once aboard, there are beautiful similarities to Jonny Greenwood film-scoring and odd feelings of tragedy when comforting riffs are slowly steamrolled by noise.
Snake Hymns is available for order today via Spring Break Tapes. It’s a run of 100 tapes, and each comes with a download card.
