The Mynabirds have been building buzz ever since their debut album, What We Lose in the Fire We Gain in the Flood, and their highly anticipated sophomore album, GENERALS, is due in June on Saddle Creek Records. Big Harp, featuring Omaha Girls Rock! founder Stefanie Drootin-Senseney (The Good Life) and husband Chris Senseney (born in Valentine, Neb.), is on a similar trajectory, while relative newcomers Howard have been splashing around Omaha ever since their first show last summer (they're also playing Saturday on another female-laden bill).

Kite Pilot w/ I Am the Navigator and Howard at Barley Street Tavern, 2735 N. 62nd St. in Omaha; 9:30 p.m.; $5
In the second of three shows where every band has at least one female member. Kite Pilot is an Omaha group that started in the early 2000s, apparently took a break, and is back playing shows and making jangly indie pop. I Am the Navigator is a Lincoln-turned-Omaha indie pop duo — I reviewed their 2011 album here. As for Howard, I rave about this Strokes-meets-Billie Holiday-meets-UUVVWWZ band every time I write about them, so I'll spare you the gushing this time around.

*Eliza Rickman w/ Amy Schmidt and the Restless Things and Classes at Duffy's Tavern, 1412 O St. in Lincoln; 9 p.m.; free
This is California-based musician Eliza Rickman's third trip to Nebraska, and this time around she has a brand-new, debut album in tow: O You Sinners. Her dark, intricate music is highly stylistic, and her intense attention to detail shows on the warm yet precise compositions. No matter how many times I hear her play, I always discover something new. Lincoln folk musician Amy Schmidt is joined by backing band the Restless Things before she heads to Europe for a six-week tour. Classes, comprising Daniel Dorner and Jordan Ellis (The Betties), is a sparkling new duo. I haven't seen them yet, but I've been eager to check them out.

*Cheyenne Marie Mize w/ Eli Mardock and Tie These Hands at Duffy's Tavern, 1412 O St. in Lincoln; 9 p.m.; free
From my SXSW review of Cheyenne Marie Mize: "Her voice is crispy and twangy, but she uses it for a variety of styles and genres. She’s been described as chamber-pop, 'breathy folk' and 'cloudy-sky country.'" What I've heard by Mize is hard to pigeonhole; she skips effortlessly from style to style, with a strong, expressive voice to tie it all together. She played to a fairly dismal crowd her last go-round — let's see if we can't make this trip better. She's joined by Eli Mardock (dancey post-Eagle*Seagull, featuring wife Carrie Mardock) and local staple Tie These Hands.

Record Store Day 2012: Saddle Creek has four vinyl releases planned for Record Store Day 2012, which falls on April 21, including 7" previews of the forthcoming albums from Omaha bands the Mynabirds and Icky Blossoms. Both records will include codes for MP3 download.
Amy Schmidt will make you a postcard: Lincoln musician Amy Schmidt is headed for another European tour, and she's using Feed the Muse to help fund it. $10 gets you a personalized postcard, $20 a postcard and signed poster, and for $35 you get the postcard, poster and signed CD. Check it out here.
Omaha's AYGAMG needs a new drummer: "We here at (All Young Girls Are Machine Guns) will miss Zip, but wish him well with his other ventures.
"Naturally, it means are on the lookout for a new drummer. We're not looking to fill any gigs desperately soon, but we are looking for someone to learn the material who has a pretty good work ethic, is willing to travel for gigs, and who we can all get along with. Being reeeeeeally good is also preferred. Just a heads up.

Wed., March 28: Shut Up and Sing screening closes Soup 'n' Cinema series
House of Loom in Omaha celebrates Women's History Month with a free series of soup and films related to the arts, with in-kind donations encouraged for Lydia House for Women and Children in Omaha (women's toiletries, baby items). X-Rated is hosting the final film, "Shut Up and Sing."
Soup, donated by Belle VUE cafe, will be served at 6:30 p.m. while it lasts. The film starts at 7 p.m., with informal discussion to follow afterwards.
Shut Up and Sing is a 2006 documentary film that follows the Dixie Chicks, an extremely successful all-woman, Texas-based country music trio, over a three-year period of intense public scrutiny, fan backlash, physical threats and pressure from both corporate and conservative political elements in the United States after lead singer Natalie Maines publicly criticised then President of the United States George W. Bush.

Kerry Eddy: Little Fur Suit
Lincoln musician Kerry Eddy (Bol'd Crow) worked as a graphic designer and illustrator for many years, and recently started selling prints on her Etsy site. Right now, you can find funny, charming prints of a character named Toad.
