Lucas Kellison & the Undisco Kids | Photo Essay

Let’s talk about soul.

A lot of people have it, but few can showcase it like Lucas Kellison and Andy Pappas did Friday night at Duffy’s Tavern.

After setting up and having a few drinks, Andy Pappas took the stage with just his keys, powerful voice and animated performance that almost knocked his keyboard of the stand. The one man onstage belied the complex instrumentation and vocals that ended with a cover of Hall & Oates’ “Kiss on My List.” Despite his passion, Pappas managed to keep his keyboard intact.

And after the soul came the funk. After hanging out in a dark corner of the bar, Lucas Kellison & the Undisco Kids took the stage with a smooth and cool manner. Whether it was their fast jams or slow, head-nodding songs such as “Breathe Again,” they kept grooving.

Lucas Kellison mellifluous emoting and Andy Pappas’ roaring growl and when they are in the same place at one time, it is bound to be something special.
