The Good Living Tour’s second weekend had its share of extremes. Norfolk’s Friday night concert saw the biggest crowd to date, boosted by a local stage hosted by Midwest Music Center, a classic-car cruise night and a food truck event billed by the Norfolk Daily News as a “rumble.” Lines from each of the taco trucks lining Third Street ran into each other, spilling out onto the main drag and into the parking lot under the Johnny Carson mural. Estimations put the crowd at more than 1,000 total attendees.
The next night, Lyons — the tour’s smallest community at just more than 900 people — turned out big for its 7 p.m. show, which culminated in a Satchel Grande-led dance party at sunset on the town’s Main Street. Concertgoers collected stagefront, on the Storefront Theater bleachers and in the beer garden outside Fallout Bar; an altogether bonafide party atmosphere. And in O’Neill, country/pop artist Rachel Price played a well-attended homecoming show at a Cottonwood-shaded Ford Park as tour enjoyed its second relaxing Sunday in a row.
The weekend’s most vivid memories: narrowly avoiding a Hastings rain-out; seven-straight hours of live music in Norfolk; a massive food truck crowd (and some great cheek tacos); Rothsteen’s hair-raising solo set; Twinsmith bringing its friend Paul onstage to play auxiliary percussion; taking over an entire main street in Lyons; seeing its Storefront Theater in action; drummer Kekeli Dawes’ final Mesonjixx show; homecomings for both Price and Jordan Smith (Norfolk); and fitting all ten members of Satchel Grande onto the Vessel stage.
