Quince Contemporary Vocal Ensemble explores the colors and textures of the voice through the work of living composers. In their collaboration with fiber artist Sue Knight, Quince will present Sound Ecology, a varied program showcasing music about and with water. Featuring works by David Lang, Lisa Bielawa, Danny Clay and Chris Cerrone, Sound Ecology will use water as an instrument, as a poetic idea and as a call to action.
Susan Knight’s work focuses on ecological water issues ranging from the devastating breakdown of the ecosystem in the Great Lakes to worldwide nitrate contamination in groundwater. Knight uses common materials like paper and Mylar in repetitive ways – cutting, folding, tying and stretching to create visual forms about dramatic ecological issues and to transform perception.
Knight’s work has been showcased at the Museum of Nebraska Art, Sheldon Museum of Art and the Bemis Center for Contemporary Art and will be highlighted in the Global Threads exhibition at KANEKO from Feb. 6–April 25.
