Redleg Husky is an Americana/folk band from Boone, North Carolina that recalls the sounds of a long drive, a well-worn record, and boots on a dusty floor. Formed in 2012 by Misa Giroux and Tim McWilliams, their live performances have continued to captivate audiences throughout the Southeast, leading to features on the Jonesborough Yarn Exchange, WNCW’s “Local Color,” WMMT Mountain Community Radio, WDVX’s “Blue Plate Special,” and a performance at the 2014 Sirens on the Mountain Music Festival. Their debut EP was recorded in January 2013 in Greensboro, NC by Daniel Levi Goans (Lowland Hum) and mastered in Brooklyn, NY by Peter Recine (Allison Weiss, The Files and Fires). They released their first full-length studio album, Carolina, on March 4th, 2014. Carolina was recorded at Wild Chorus Studios in Knoxville, TN with Scott Minor (Sparklehorse) and mastered in Chicago, IL by Carl Saff.
Originally from Southbury, Connecticut, Misa has been playing Mary Chapin Carpenter covers in her room since she was 13. After seeing Tift Merritt perform a solo show at the Iron Horse Music Hall in Northampton, Massachusetts with just a soulful voice and a beat-up guitar, she knew that music was something she had to pursue. Armed with a dog and her record collection, she moved south and met Tim at a potluck, after which they quickly joined forces to pursue their love of acoustic roots music.
A lifelong resident of Cincinnati, Ohio, Tim started out mastering the licks of Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan. After playing lead guitar in numerous rock bands, he saw an Avett Brothers concert while at Ohio University and was instantly drawn to American roots music. Continuing a journey to find the music that has inspired the artists he loves, Tim has become engulfed with old-time, country and delta blues field recordings. He now merges blues and old-time styles on acoustic guitar, flowing from the songs of Doc Watson to Muddy Waters with ease.
Originally from Greenville, South Carolina, David Funderburk has been a musical being his entire life and has over twenty years of song-writing experience. From classical choral performances at Carnegie Hall and the Grand Ole Opry, to experimental electronic noise concerts in the seedy bars of New Orleans, to sing-along folk performances at the John C. Campbell Folk School and the International Storytelling Center, David has performed in a wide variety of musical contexts. He combines an eclectic taste in music with a keen sense of songwriting and a love of unconventional instruments. With Redleg Husky (a band that loves to busk), David has focused on building a tool kit of easily portable acoustic instruments, providing a wide variety of sonic possibilities – box drum, musical saw, limber jack, jaw harp, melodica, washboard, nose flute, kazoo, etc. If it makes noise and it’s small enough to fit in his bag, he’ll play it.
