PINK NOISE: A signal or process with a frequency spectrum in-between white noise and red noise. In pink noise, each octave carries an equal amount of noise power.
As of this week, Pink Noise is moving from a weekly to a semimonthly format, i.e. every other week, which ultimately means more live bands on the radio show and by extension, more podcasts, while still delivering news about women musicians in Nebraska.
X-Rated: Women in Music is also in the process of reviving the former Clawfoot Salon, a bimonthly soiree for musical women to share their work, solicit feedback and advice and share their experiences in a safe space. (More on that in the coming weeks.)

Dames Hit the Decks Monthly Launch Party at House of Loom, 1012 S. 10th St. in Omaha; Free; 21+
I wrote about the first Dames Hit the Decks event back in January, and the spotlight on women DJs has been monthly. The first Thursday of every month at House of Loom, you can catch resident DJs Ema Strunk and Hypoxik, plus a rotating cast of guests. For the launch party, that guest is Miss Knotty. I actually had to miss the original Dames Hit the Decks, so I'm thrilled that it'll be a regular event.

A Reproductive Rights Benefit to Launch Sycamore Center, featuring Black Cohosh, All Young Girls Are Machine Guns, Honeybee & Hers and Gerardo Meza at the Sycamore Family Resource Center, 1834 Ryons St. in Lincoln; $5; all ages; 6 p.m.
Sycamore Family Resource Center is an in-progress nonprofit women and family health collective forming in Lincoln, and given my work through X-Rated, I was contacted about being involved — in fact, I booked half this show. Great music and activism all at the same time … what's not to love? Black Cohosh is spectacular metal-americana (you read that right), Honeybee & Hers is arresting, driven, minimalist indie, and All Young Girls Are Machine Guns is sweet, sweet ukulele soul-swing.

*Caroline Smith and the Goodnight Sleeps w/ All Young Girls Are Machine Guns and Betsy Wells at Barley Street Tavern, 2735 N. 62nd St. in Omaha; $5; 9 p.m.
Caroline Smith and the Goodnight Sleeps are a Minneapolis band that's making Nebraska a regular stop, and I couldn't be happier. Playing banjo-indie with a Billie Holiday flair, feminist sensibilities and catchy melodies, the band translates well to the live stage. Not-to-miss.

I caught Screaming Females at SXSW a few weeks ago (review here) and was so bummed to see that this show, featuring one of my favorite local acts (Wayward) and an Omaha band I haven't caught live yet (I Am the Navigator) is happening when I'm out of town for a wedding.
It's even my birthday, and I could think of few better ways to spend it. Sigh. Such is the way.
Guess you all will just have to go in my stead.

Teal Gardner from UUVVWWZ talks new music: Blog Omahype features an interview with the Lincoln frontwoman where she discusses working toward a new sound with their new drummer and their forthcoming sophomore album, engineered by JJ Idt (Conduits, Eagle*Seagull).
New video from Omaha band Conduits: Speaking of Conduits, check out this new video for the group's song "Last Dirge" from their self-titled debut, released March 20 by Omaha-connected label Team Love.
Van Fantom returns to town: Nicole Siegrist, the indie-hip hop musician who goes by the name Van Fantom, moved to Chicago last fall, but she's back for a visit and is playing a gig Thursday, April 5 with Life in Prism and Crunk Witch at the Zoo Bar, 136 N. 14th St. in Lincoln.

Stephanie Krysl: Bananacow Design
Stephanie Krysl (of Omaha band The Electroliners) is a decor and fashion maven with several creative outlets, including an online interior design business and blog, Bananacow Design; an Etsy shop featuring handmade decor items, custom pop culture embroidery pieces and accessories; and a retro fashion blog, Retrofabulousfashion. Her current project? Working on details for an upcoming retro hairstyling class series on how to recreate hairstyles from the '40s through the '60s.
Hilary Stohs-Krause can't wait for the Kimbra and Gotye concert in Denver on Friday. She gets her local music fix through HN and as a cocktail waitress at Duffy's Tavern.
