Biography
Words Like Daggers is a 4 piece Rock N' Roll/Unorthodox Post-Hardcore band from Middle Earth keeping it weird and sassy since 2010.The Difference:
This group does not aspire to be yet another band in a long lineup or trendy niche; rather, they continually strive to make a unique mark on the musical world that pushes the boundaries of what is considered 'normal' within the genre. Whether it’s archaic lyricism, odd rhythms, jazz-based key signatures, or unusual transitions,
you’re bound to find something fresh within their music.
The History:
In April 2010, after many months spent solidifying the lineup and working on demo material, Words Like Daggers officially
kicked off with a series of high-profile regional shows with artists such as The Bled, Haste The Day, Upon A Burning Body, Attack
Attack!, Of Mice And Men, The Color Morale, and My Children My Bride. In August 2010 they hit the studio with producer/engineer
Cory Spotts (Job For A Cowboy, Blessthefall, Greeley Estates, The Maine, and many more) to record their five song debut EP, These
Transient Times, which was released in October 2010. The EP was well received and shortly landed them a spot on the roster of
Georgia based recording label Indianola Records. The album was also followed by additional high-profile regional shows with artists
like Norma Jean, Born Of Osiris, Asking Alexandria, Chiodos, The Air I Breathe, and Motionless In White. After many months of
writing, gigging, and working on demo material, Words Like Daggers once again went into the studio, but this time with
producer/engineer Joseph McQueen (As I Lay Dying, Ruben Studdard, and many more) to record their debut full-length album,
Literature. After just eleven days, they completed the eight track record and proceeded on a few tours with label mates This Day Will
Tell and Scream Out Loud as well as Hotfoot Records artist I, Apparatus. Following the physical and digital release of Literature on
May 8th, 2012, Words Like Daggers set out on summer and fall tours featuring bands like Sky Came Burning, Honour Crest
(Indianola Records), Phinehas (Red Cord Records), Alistair Hennessey, and many more. Currently, the group is gigging regionally
while writing and recording their third studio effort, which is shaping up to be the project‘s most exciting installment yet.
The Music:
Words Like Daggers’ first official effort, These Transient Times, contains definite elements of the band’s many influences such
as - Refused, Underoath, Circa Survive, Norma Jean, Oh Sleeper, The Deftones, Converge, and tons more. It mixes the intensity of an
over-arching, desperate hardcore delivery with melodic, almost soothing moments to create a seamless tapestry of contrast that
purposely reflects the natural ebb and flow of the human condition. Staying true to the Shakespearean origin of the band name, the EP
also utilizes a lyrical concept derived from one of Shakespeare’s most famous plays, “Macbeth”. Though the EP was well received and
“right” for that specific time in the band’s young life, the group generally agreed that the sound is a touch “safer” than they preferred
with regard to the bigger picture. However, Literature (appropriately named as a tribute to the band’s love for and frequent use of
classical literature) is a very purposeful leap down a path set to better define the band’s own unique sound and further develop the
group as well as each individual musician. The new album is a veritable buffet of genres including punk, rock, jazz, doom, pop and
gypsy all stemming from an intense, metalcore center. From melodic, singing-heavy sections to bone crushing breakdowns to skanky
spoken word interludes, this record has it all. Literature presents a new level of technicality, emotion, and song writing skill from a
band that’s hungry to make its impression on the world of music. Stay tuned for the next installment: "Disrupt!". It'll change the game....yet again.
