Ten O’Clock Scholars are a powerpop foursome that have been making a name for themselves in the Omaha music scene since 2000. Drawing from various genres including indie-rock, pop, grunge, folk, and plain old rock ‘n’ roll, members Ryan Kosola, Paul Gedbaw, Justin Connealy and Taylor Stein, blend their unique musical backgrounds to create a sound that’s reminiscent of late 90’s radio rock.
During the course of their existence Ten O’Clock Scholars has shared the stage with Deep Blue Something, Marty Casey and The Lovehammers, Jeffrey Gaines, Zack Hexum, The Alternate Routes, The Nadas, and played festivals with the likes of Sister Hazel, Toadies, and What Made Milwaukee Famous. After the release of their first full-length album “Bridges and Brighter Days” in 2006, the band began playing regionally across Nebraska, Iowa, Colorado, Oklahoma and Texas. Ten O’Clock Scholars have had nine different songs played on radio stations in Nebraska, Iowa, and Kansas, including their biggest hit to date, “Indecision.” They were band of the week on Omaha television station KXVO in 2006 and 2007. They are also heavily involved in the Continental Drift Music Festival, a one-day grassroots music/camping/movie event put on by their label, Onken-Stein Records, and have headlined the event twice (2012, 2015).
Their 2015 release, “A Long Way From Midnight,” marks the 4th album from the band and their first full-length record since 2009. (The band was on hiatus from 2009 to 2012.) With this new release, the band picks up right where they left off. You’ll find tracks that have the familiar “Scholars sound,” tunes that take an unexpected turn, and songs that are sure to please old fans and win over new ones.
