“These drinking songs have got the best of me…” sings Adam Lee on Good Days, a track off his debut solo album, currently in production. Some would dispute that fact. For the last few years, Lee has traveled the U.S. and beyond promoting “When the Spirits Move Me,” his bourbon-soaked tribute to classic country. With his newest effort, he broadens his scope. Sure, you’ll find references to alcohol and other classic country tropes, but you’ll also find a fearless and refreshing vulnerability, as well as elements of rock, Americana, and rhythm & blues. Drawing influence from some of the greats, John Prine, Tom Waits, Springsteen, you’ll also hear touches of contemporaries like Jason Isbell, Justin Townes Earle, and Cory Branan. Adam Lee has had songs included in feature length films (Kevin Smith’s Red State and TUSK) and even exercised his acting chops as a lead cast member in the Sun Records-inspired and Tony Award-winning stage show Million Dollar Quartet. Most recently, he has been nominated for an Ameripolitan Award – Dale Watson’s accolade for all things Roots. His greatest passion, however, is songwriting. Brutally honest songwriting. With his new album Lee has dug deep and crafted songs both personal and universal. He reminds us that life is full of temptation, hardship and, occasionally, redemption. That despite life’s pitfalls, eventually, “good days are gonna come.”
