Detroit native William Bolton (Willy B) started playing the guitar at age 10 and knew from a young age that he wanted to become a rock star. When his older brother went to college, he left behind recording equipment, which Bolton began using to record the songs he had been writing. He produces the majority of his music under his alter ego, Times New Roman. Being from Motown has greatly influenced Willy B’s music as he creates a modern soul sound.
After years of making beats in his mother’s basement, Willy B released a demo tape on SoundCloud, which caught the attention of the blog world and musical legend Ryan Leslie, who has become Bolton’s mentor. Willy B followed the demo tape up with the “Summer Breeze” album, a timeless project that sounds like a mix of ’70s rock and soul music. Currently, Bolton is working on a new project “Love Supreme” in New York City as he prepares to finish his final year at Boston College.
