Julia Olynyk, formerly Julia Jenkins, grew up in Omaha, Nebraska and has been singing as long as she can remember. After an eclectic mix of musical experiences in high school, from playing saxophone and oboe to singing in many ensembles, she set her heart on Luther College to pursue her music education degree. Coming from an entire family of music teachers, she didn’t stand a chance! After graduating in 2009, she moved to New York to student teach, finding a balance between teaching and performing. She then moved back to Omaha to be nearer to her sweetheart. She is currently in her fifth year of teaching elementary music in the Millard district.
Joe Olynyk, born in Winnepeg, Manitoba (which is in Canada if you aren’t aware) moved to Appleton, Wisconsin when he was young, and lived there until he went to Luther College in 2006. In Appleton, he played percussion and sang in a variety of ensembles, learning to love music of all genres and styles. Some of his happiest times were spent with his dad, listening to him play guitar and sing old Bob Dylan or Simon and Garfunkel tunes. So, he picked up the guitar at age fourteen and hasn’t put it down since. While at Luther, Joe also studied music education, and is currently living in Omaha, teaching elementary music for his fourth year in Westside.
Thanks to Luther College, Joe and Julia met and instantly were drawn to each other. Both respected musicians, they began creating music of their own. After settling down in Omaha, they got married in September of 2012 and are now excited to get out and share that music. They have performed at numerous restaurants, weddings, cocktail hours, and other various events, and continue to broaden their audience. With guitar and vocals, (occasionally bringing in guest artists), they perform many styles- from rock to pop to jazz to folk and anything in between.
