In the weeks leading up to the release of Orenda Fink’s Blue Dream, out Aug. 19 on Saddle Creek, she’s steadily unveiled pieces of the record. Between song premieres and features wherein she details the narrative surrounding the album’s inception, what happens inside Blue Dream’s frame becomes more and more visible.
Today, American Songwriter dropped another track, “Holy, Holy,” uncovering the bigger picture even further.
Like “Ace of Cups” before it, “Holy, Holy” burns intense and intimate. Fink has said the material for Blue Dream was inspired, at least somewhat, by the death of her dog. It appears here that loss manifests itself clearly and with moving rumination.
“I gave it all to you and you took it when you left here. We come into this world all alone and we leave with not much more,” she sings.
Listen to “Holy, Holy” and read Fink’s own words on the track here.
