“The Cross Between” by Capitol Ave. | Music Video

words by Michael Todd

The difference a pair of thick-lensed glasses can make.

Capitol Ave. frontman Ben Salzinger transforms from groggy rapper at the start of his day — pausing from his daily regimen to jot down a line or two — into a commuter on his way to work. That is, until the car doesn’t start.

What follows in the music video for “The Cross Between” is a trip toward the hills between Lincoln and Omaha. Metaphorically, that destination might represent the decision to pursue music instead of a dull workday.

This video marks another of the Omaha group’s visual complements, which include “In Conclusion” and “Round Six,” the latter of which featuring Salzinger and Durwin Pace playing his mobile bass from a roof and from the back of a car.

The song comes of Capitol Ave.’s new album Put On Hold, which was released at Slowdown on Nov. 13. After the hip-hop group’s debut mixtape Inside Out in 2011, producer and multi-instrumentalist Zach Fuller began to earn his Ph.D. in molecular evolution at Penn State, all the while working on Put On Hold with Salzinger and bassist Durwin Pace.
