Hear Nebraska announced today that it has been awarded a grant of $4,554.00 by the Nebraska Arts Council.
This grant will support Hear Nebraska’s efforts to join other leaders in online multi-media distribution such as NPR, Pitchfork, and Spotify in creating and implementing a listener-led web player which will be specifically devoted to Nebraska music and arts, providing round-the-clock access to Nebraska-music-related songs, videos, stories and calendar events, resulting in a choose-your-own-adventure of regional arts programming.
“We are extremely honored that this integral cultural institution, the Nebraska Arts Council, sees the benefit of HN Radio, which will allow Nebraska culture lovers across the state, and across the world, to literally hear Nebraska,” said Andrew Norman, Hear Nebraska’s executive director and co-founder.
Nebraska Arts Council’s Executive Director, Suzanne Wise, commended Hear Nebraska for its programs, noting that, “Hear Nebraska does an outstanding job of providing arts activities statewide. It is through fine organizations like this that Nebraska’s children receive a better education in the arts, and the quality of life is improved for all Nebraskans.”
Hear Nebraska is a nonprofit cultural organization founded in 2010 that cultivates the state's vibrant, fertile music and arts community. By providing resources and a voice for bands, artists and members of Nebraska’s creative class — as well as the businesses that support them — Hear Nebraska strives to make the state a globally recognized cultural destination. We do this by exposing the state’s music scene through creative, comprehensive online journalistic coverage, booking and promoting concerts which showcase our homegrown talent, and partnering with area organizations that help us achieve our mission. Previous accomplishments include receiving the 2012 Nebraska Friend of Tourism Award.
Hear Nebraska will continue to promote, cultivate and sustain the arts by curating HN Radio, an online, interactive resource and connecting point for Nebraskans. This is an opportunity to further manage content already produced by Hear Nebraska, while calling forth a progression of initiatives that support the greater creative community, resulting in a virtual, ongoing arts festival.
The Nebraska Arts Council grants monetary resources to Nebraska’s nonprofit organizations for arts projects and programs in communities throughout the state. This financial support is made possible by funds appropriated by the Nebraska Legislature, through competitive grants from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), a federal agency, and funds from the Nebraska Cultural Endowment (NCE). Nebraskans wishing to learn more about NEA grants or the NCE should visit the NAC website at www.nebraskaartscouncil.org.
