The 80s was a hell of a decade for music and for the emergence of nerd culture. It was the decade of synthesized sounds, the emergence of video games, the re-emergence of serious sci-fi cinema, the popularization of D&D, and the year nerds stopped being whipping boys and started fighting for the social supremacy we hold today! John Hughes shed light on the feelings of nerds in High school, And Lewis and Booger got their revenge. And a small town teen in an orange vest used 1.21 Jiggawats of electricity to save his scientist friend and ensure his nerdy father wooed his mother at the high school dance. So we at the Omaha Sexy Nerd Society and The Hideout (Omaha) crew bring you a celebration of the era that the word nerd became part of our regular vernacular. Here is what to expect….

– COSTUME CONTEST! Come dressed as your favorite 80s nerd or sci-fi character, or just as your idea of the common 80s nerd! The contest winner will receive $20 and a prize pack put together by the venue and bands. The judges? The bands!!

– 80s dance competition! i.e The running man, The Lawnmower, The Cabbage Patch, The Robot, The Moonwalk, etc. Winner gets bragging rights and a free drink!!

– Themed drink menu with nerdy 80s cocktails!

– Food provided by food truck (vendor tba)
