Excellency formed in 2015 in Omaha, Nebraska as an outgrowth of another project. Jeffrey Bell, Chuck Davis and Mike Volk had enjoyed playing together in the R.E.M. Tribute band REModeled, but were ready to start writing original music again. Dave Cooke, a frequent collaborator of Mike’s, came on board as drummer. Steeped in the shimmering tones and oblique lyrics of their 80’s and 90’s college rock influences, a new sound emerged as Excellency.
