Ahead of its Friday release show, Better Friend has given a preview of the entirety of its new EP, Safe House
As we wrote last week about its closing track “Someday We Will Laugh About Everything,” Safe House is a dynamic display of tonal control and melody. Its pace-setter, the opening track “Love Thy Neighbor,” starts with cascading drums and the chaotic mix of swirling noise, hard riffs and sharp lead lines.
Meghan Munyon’s full-bodied voice commands center attention through it all as she asserts, “I am not a body to choose from, nor am I something you can control.”
RSVP to the July 24 release show at The Bourbon here. Lincoln’s Once A Pawn and Omaha’s See Through Dresses round out the billing.

In the 1970’s, Stiff Little Fingers was at the forefront of the politically minded punk rock movement along with bands like the Clash, Sex Pistols and Buzzcocks. Last night, the legendary Belfast, Northern Ireland, punk rock legends played a last-minute show at Duffy’s Tavern.
HN Intern Peter Barnes caught photos of the band, which played with the previously-booked billing of Red Cities, Jamaican Queens and Heavy Glow.

Saturday, Lincoln pop punk quartet No Tide hit the Knickerbockers stage in celebration their debut LP Death Of The Sun, which dropped June 27 on Take This To Heart Records. They were joined by label mates Sundressed, as well as Lincoln’s Letterbomb and Omaha’s A Summer Better Than Yours.

We know its later, but its still Monday, and that means a new HN Radio playlist at the top of the website. This week, in honor of the Good Living Tour, we’re rolling with a set of acts from tour, including “Roses,” a track from Rock Paper Dynamite’s new album Teeth. We also have a cut from Evan Bartles’ live, in-studio performance on HNFM last week.
Speaking of the radio show, former managing editor Chance Solem-Pfeifer will host HNFM tonight with former Lost and Found co-host Tyler Keown. The pair used to host their weekly show on KRNU. Tune in to 89.3 or KRNU.org from 8-10 p.m.
