Music can be one of the strongest catalysts of nostalgia. It can bring us back to a moment, make us re-experience something. So it makes sense that bands try to recreate certain eras or past feelings with their music. However, that's not Nederland, Colorado based bluegrass quartet Yonder Mountain String Band.

“We don’t have a lot of nostalgia for the past,” says YMSB banjo player and vocalist Dave Johnson in a press release. “You shouldn’t try to recreate the 1940s. I like to think of us as informed by the past and all the great performers before us. But we also want to look forward rather than give people something that has already been perfected.”

Yonder Mountain String Band has generated its own cult following with a bluegrass and jam band puree, and will play tonight at the Slowdown. The $25 show starts at 9 pm..
