New on the scene, Grassfire, a three piece band made up of Lincolnites, is putting a new spin on bluegrass. Covering bluegrass classics such as Cripple Creek and Levon’s Helm’s Got Me A Woman, the repertoire includes covers from unknown artists from around the globe as well as folk and pop tunes, all arranged to feature the banjo.
Friends, Matt Richardson, Jenny Richardson, and Laurie Fraser started playing for fun. Matt, an accomplished musician and co-owner of Blue Raven Music Studios, plays in the Blues Messengers and Jumpin Kate, but really showcases his skills on the banjo and vocals with Grassfire.
Jenny, co-owner of Blue Raven Music Studios and the newest addition to the band, plays a multitude of instruments but has honed her skills on the upright bass, giving the original two-piece a nice deep, full sound.
Laurie Fraser, a long time fan of the local music scene and publicist for the Kris Lager Band, provides most of the vocals with a clear, low alto range, invoking emotion in one song, and a playfulness in the next.
