Kris Lager and Scru Face Jean national tours; Esmé Patterson announced; Sylvan Esso tonight

The perennially touring Kris Lager Band heads out on the road again next month. The Omaha-based soul band announced a batch of Midwest and East Coast tour dates, kicking off at the Zoo Bar in Lincoln April 10. Later in May, Kris Lager Band also headlines HullabaCruise, a musical tour of the Missouri River.

We reviewed the latest release, Heavy Soul & Boogie Trance, last month. The album’s title fits the genre, with groovy funk guitars and soulful guitars mixed with psychedelia.

Esmé Patterson will play Reverb Lounge on April 24. The Denver folk-rock singer’s show will open with Simon Joyner and Sean Pratt and The Sweats. RSVP for the event here.

Patterson’s fall tour with Austin’s Shakey Graves saw performances on Conan and, most recently, The Late Show in February. Shakey Graves sold out The Waiting Room in November. Patterson released her debut, Woman to Woman, in April 2014.

The show also comes just a few weeks after the release of Joyner’s new album Grass Branch and Bone. Stay tuned for a feature on the ARC-recorded album.

Scru Face Jean is on the road with producer/rapper Mark Battles and Derek Luh. The national tour will take the Lincoln rapper to both coasts in March and April. The tour kicked off at Lincoln’s Vega on Tuesday night, and continues with tonight’s show in Colorado Springs.

Scru Face Jean released a slew of music videos last year and currently has two singles on his website. We wrote about “Black Caesar” here.

For his part, Battles is the founder of the record label Fly America and has worked with Lil Wayne and Ab-Soul. Luh is a rapper on Fly America. Taking the unsigned Scru Face on tour through some of the country’s biggest cities could forge new fans for the rapper. We’re excited to see what comes of it.
