Rik Minnick’s Ol’ Moanin’ Corpse | Off the Record

Sipping on brewed coffee from a miniature espresso glass, “so the coffee never gets cold,” Rik Minnick plops some of his favorite 45s on to the checkerboard table at The Mill in Lincoln, Neb.

The records represent a small part of the thousands more Minnick has acquired over the years. He says these hand-selected, diverse 45s might be heard at Yia Yia’s tonight, but they’re four of about 180 he could play. The free concert starting at 10 p.m. will feature fellow DJ JLB as well as Ol’ Moanin’ Corpse, Minnick’s stage name.

While Minnick’s style is often associated with soul music, he would rather shy away from stereotypes. Listen as Minnick introduces himself and talks about the history, playability and reception of the 45s:

"There It Is Part 2" by James Brown

"Papa Jack" by Byron Lee and the Dragonaires
