“GENERALS” by The Mynabirds | Album Stream

The bits and pieces have been fluttering around the blogosphere and this very website since Valentine's Day. Today, Team Coco and Rdio released a stream of The Mynabirds' GENERALS to bring it all together.

Produced by Richard Swift, this followup to 2010's What We Lose in the Fire We Gain in the Flood is a soulful call to action. Main 'bird Laura Burhenn told Hear Nebraska back in early March, "It's a protest and a concept record. It's a lot louder than the last one, more dancey, rougher around the edges."

Burhenn wrote from the perspective of many different women, making it a "sort of wolf mother of the collective consciousness guarding her cubs, the daughters, the sisters, et cetera." Listen to each voice speak with the stream below if you have an Rdio account or would like to sign up for free. Listen three times through on the Team Coco page without an account.

GENERALS will be released June 5 on Saddle Creek Records, and The Mynabirds will play a record release show on June 8 with Jake Bellows and Honeybee & Hers.

Michael Todd is Hear Nebraska's managing editor. He will battle his neighbors' tuba-driven music with this revolutionist's soundtrack. Reach Michael at michaeltodd@hearnebraska.org.
