“And Collapse” by The Seen | Brightest Whisper Video

From a collapse rises something new. Something better.

Such was the case for five young musicians known as The Seen. Front man Buck Blanc, along with a few of his bandmates, came from now-defunct Omaha band And Collapse, and they pay homage to their roots with this yet unreleased song titled “… and collapse” captured at The Waiting Room.

The Seen evolved from a two-piece — Blanc and Ryan Callinan — who cut their teeth at open mic nights at local haunts like Barley Street Tavern and Sean O’Casey’s. A year or more later members fell into place coming from as far away as California.

These guys, who once saw themselves as outsiders, are catching the attention of local tastemakers and spawning a community of fans and friends. And I get the impression they might embrace the sacrifice required to take their craft beyond our city walls. Three of them already share residence in the band’s practice house. Making the transition to a cramped touring van should be no problem, right?

Catch The Seen with Landing on the Moon and The Kickback (Chicago) on Saturday at 9:30 p.m. at O’Leaver’s, 1322 S. Saddle Creek Road.
