Günter Voelker and Scott Severin at Meadowlark Coffee

Gunter Voelker and Scott Severin will each be performing a special solo acoustic Christmas show. It’s totally free and starts promptly at 7pm

Gunter Voelker is the leader of Lincoln, Nebaska band, Jack Hotel. Who is Jack Hotel? It’s a question that might not have an answer. Songwriter Günter Voelker
says he imagines a man without a face, a blur in a crowd of strangers. In “Tobias,” from the band’s debut record Good Sons and Daughters, Hotel is a methaddicted
outlaw in hiding after the possible murder of a gas station attendant. “Throwing Pennies” finds him pensive,
considering the strange effects of time and the unknowability of other people. Good Sons and
Daughters, released in May of 2014 on Sower Records, represents the band’s best attempt to
address the question of their identity. Günter Voelker on guitar and vocals, Joe Salvati on
dobro, Josh Rector on violin, Marty Steinhausen on upright bass, and Casey Hollingsworth on
mandolin move seamlessly through a batch of songs that assume a range of moods and
voices, and pose as many questions as a listener might ask. They are at work on their second
record, with plans to tour in 2015.

Scott Severin redefines eclectic. Born “sometime during the Kennedy administration,” this songwriter/performance artist has been a folkie, punk rocker, actor, street performer, and published poet. Although his musical style could nominally be defined as Indie-Rock, he manages to encompass and eviscerate musical styles from Country & Western, Americana, traditional Rock & Roll, Blues, Folk, and Tom Waits-like mock opera. The only thing easily definable about Scott’s sound is that it is truly original and challenging. A born and raised New Yorker, Severin moved to Nebraska in 2004. His defunct band, The Milton Burlesque, were local and regional favorites thoughout the first decade of this century.

Of late, Scott has returned to his roots, and is performing solo acoustic shows throughout the US during the fall and winter of 2014/2015. He will be performing several new songs from “The Witches Of Council Bluffs”, an EP scheduled for 2015 release.
