Frenchy and the Punk with Anonymous Henchmen Live in Omaha at Barley Street Tavern

“Living up to their name whole heartedly, Frenchy, Samantha Stephenson, was born in France and sings in French and English, they even cover the classic french song ‘Champs Elysees’. The Punk, Scott Helland, whose punk pedigree is legendary having played throughout the eighties with Deep Wound who included Dinosaur jr’s J Mascis and Lou Barlow and then Outpatients, a Massachusett’s hardcore punk band that played with many of the classic bands including Black Flag, Husker Du, GBH and the Cro-Mags. Punk cred doesn’t get much better than that.” (Examiner.com)

“Some punks just get old and do nothing, some continue playing the punk they started with and some punks tweak their punk sensibility and come up with something new. Former Deep Wound/Outpatients bassist Scott Helland and his partner singer Samantha Stephenson do the latter with their folk punk cabaret duo, Frenchy and the Punk. They recall the no nonsense hardworking classic bands like the Ramones, The Pretenders, Concrete Blonde and Siouxsie and the Banshees but with a sound thats more modern, eclectic, and folk based. They’ve been compared to Gogol Bordello and the Dresden Dolls but don’t sound like them. There hard to pinpoint but they have their own sound and that’s the beauty of this New York duo.”

“Frenchy and the Punk used their folk roots, fused effortlessly with punk theatricality…Parlez-vous punk? …and they drew raucous cheers and inspired dancing!”
