Dolores Diaz & The Standby Club are shrouded in mystery. While it is difficult to untangle the facts from the rumors surrounding Dolores Diaz’s origin story, some say she is an heiress from an affluent Mexican family while others claim she comes from humble beginnings in the mountains near San Miguel. In any event, her arrival in Omaha was nothing short of enigmatic. Seemingly out of nowhere she assembled a backing band comprised of some of Omaha’s most notable and accomplished players. Mike Mogis and Conor Oberst (both of Bright Eyes, Monsters of Folk), Ben Brodin, Miwi La Lupa, Roger Lewis (The Good Life), Dan McCarthy (McCarthy Trenching), Phillip Schaffart and Matt Maginn (Cursive) now make up the stellar ensemble known as the Standby Club. Her gifted ability to interpret classic songs and make them her own results in a fantastic combination of vintage country and what one critic described as “Tejano Soul”.
