Brilliant Beast

Brilliant Beast is a loud band from Minneapolis. Playing together since 2011, led by sibling dual-vocalists Hannah (vocals, guitar) and Jordan Porter (vocals, guitar) and anchored by the breakneck rhythm section of Mark Kartarik (bass) and Eric Whalen (drums), Brilliant Beast crafts pop music submerged in heavy doses of shoegaze, punk, and fuzz pop. Drawing from influences from Ride to Rites of Spring, Brilliant Beast’s songs are full of angular guitars, washy melodies, droning bass lines and cavernous vocals. Their debut EP “Where Do You Want” was released in 2013 on Guilt Ridden Pop (Kitten Forever, IS/IS, Brief Candles), and in 2015 the band released a Split EP with Fury Things. Brilliant Beast’s tracks on “Split EP” are “No Fate,” a blistering chainsaw of early 90s shoegaze reminiscent of Sonic Youth and Yo La Tengo, and a cover of Talking Heads’ “Heaven,” turned on its head, re-imagined into a slow, sludgy dirge full of spiraling guitars.
