Biography

The pieces of Sovereignty began to form in the summer of 2014. Ryan Lieb and Dakota Horrell met through a mutual friend, and soon discovered that they both had a desire to fill an empty space in their local music scene. Together, the two began writing music that sought to defy the norms of typical metal, pulling influences from progressive bands like Dream Theater, Rush, Opeth, Coheed and Cambria, and Mastodon, as well as Metallica, Lamb of God, Trivium, and Megadeth.

The two rehearsed with a drummer who would ultimately depart before the band was ready to gig, and through a Craigslist ad they discovered Tyler Sims, who shares their love of both prog and classic metal. The group wrote and rehearsed for several months before their drummer departed amicably, leaving Ryan, Dakota, and Tyler in search of a new drummer.

In the fall of 2015 Tyler's friend and roommate Scott Klusaw joined the group, and brought with him yet more progressive influences, most notably Between the Buried and Me. After finally completing what is now known as their founding lineup, Sovereignty performed their first gig on November 21st, 2015 and have been growing their fan base in Omaha ever since.
