Formed in 2013, 3TEETH is an L.A.-based transgressive artistic collaborative consisting of Alexis Mincolla (vocals), Xavier Swafford (keys), Andrew Means (drums) and Chase Brawner (guitars). Inspired by the early ‘90s industrial scene and acts like Ministry and NIN, the four-piece boasts a unique amalgam of aggressive sounds and compelling visual art that, combined with their cynical humor and provocative propaganda, ultimately asks fans to join their assault on consensus-based reality.
The group released its self-titled debut album in 2014 and was promptly hailed as a welcome return to the old school industrial sound of the ‘90s that eschewed EBM’s techno beats in favor of grinding grooves, atmospheric keyboards, crunchy guitars and heavily distorted vocals.
Meanwhile, the band developed an intense live show that unleashed the cathartic chaos contained in their studio recordings. On 3TEETH’s stage, the band’s brutal sonics get paired with a dense array of images brought together by the mesmerizing performance of frontman Mincolla. The group saw its creative efforts pay off in a major way when metal giants TOOL handpicked 3TEETH to support them on their 2016 world arena tour with Primus.
Preparation for the band’s next album began in earnest shortly after the tour with new material being written and recorded. Two singles from the album, “Degrade” and “Atrophy,” were released, the latter of which was accompanied by a concept video, and both songs demonstrated that 3TEETH had hit a new creative peak. Sean Beavan, producer and mixer who has worked on albums by NIN, Marilyn Manson, A Perfect Circle, Slayer and more, was brought in to take the band’s recordings to the next level. The final album was then mastered by Howie Weinberg (Pantera, TOOL, Rammstein) resulting in by far the heaviest sounds the band has ever conjured.
The now completed, long-awaited follow-up album, shutdown.exe, will see the light of day May 19 courtesy of OMF Records, a new imprint of Cleopatra Records, Inc.
