X-Rated Podcast: Lady Songwriter Round Table

by Hilary Stohs-Krause

One of the major themes of X-Rated is that women's experiences musically are often different than men's, for a variety of reasons — some positive, many not so much. I was contacted a few weeks ago by Rebecca Lowry, Omaha's ukulele darling, about an idea she was toying around with. She wanted to do something different for touring artist Sarah Donner than just another concert, and before long, she'd gathered together a group of talented Omaha musicians and poets for a roundtable performance and discussion, and we decided I'd make the trek north to record the evening for the radio and for podcasting here.

It was a blast.

The event lasted almost three hours, and questions posed to the artists ranged from insightful to giggly to methodical. The repartee between the participants, some who knew each other intimately and some who'd just met, was infectious and inspiring. Listen to the podcast below for a taste, and stay tuned for a possible Lincoln edition in the near future …
