Thunder Power’s First LP | Kickstarter Campaign

by Jordan Minnick

With three days to go, Thunder Power’s Kickstarter campaign to raise $2,000 is $330 away from its goal. If they don’t meet it by 8 p.m. this Saturday, May 14, they won’t see a penny.

Money raised goes to the making of Thunder Power’s first LP on Slumber Party Records, namely studio bills they’ve yet to pay.

“Hopefully, we can get the funding so we don’t have to sell possessions to pay for the recording," keys player Ian Simons says.

They began their Kickstarter effort 42 days ago while the band began recording with A.J. Mogis at ARC Studios, Simons says. The album's release is hopeful for mid-July, so its ready for Thunder Power's three-week West Coast tour outing starting July 20. The tour ends with a homecoming show date at Barley Street Tavern Thursday, Aug. 11 as part of the Nebraska Pop Festival.

Although it's getting down to the make-or-break point, the band remains hopeful.

“We’d seen a couple of other bands do it that were successful," says Simons, also of new band Blue Bird. "Like Old Canes from Lawrence did it, they were able to get like $4,000 or something. Digital Leather did it. So we knew it was doable, cause bands that we were familiar with had done it. So we thought it’s worth a shot. There’s really nothing to lose by trying.”
