Here's a little secret: Punks tend to be nice, as in apologizing when they don't need to nice. Rarely are they scary, and many of them even have hearts of gold, much like Charlie Sheen's character in Ferris Bueller's Day Off and Bobcat Goldthwait's Zed in Police Academy. They're mostly nerds who like to grow beards and frequent message boards. And they like their rock fast.

I know this. I think I've always known it. So given the way crowd members crawl on one another as if they're ants forming a water bridge, and the always forward-looking lyrics of Oklahoma City band Red City Radio's song "Spinning in Circles is a Gateway Drug" — We'll write our names in gasoline and burn them into the world / … We'll be whatever we choose to be — something so traditional and hopeful as took place at the beginning of the below video shouldn't feel odd. But despite all these truths, what happened Saturday night at the Double Down Live (formerly Common Grounds) at The Fest in Gainesville still catches me off guard. In a nice way.
