As Katie Miller moved, she physically unwound across the dancefloor, employing a combination of spins, headbangs and swaying arms.

Under the dim house lights of O’Leaver’s Pub on Thursday the frontwoman of Roman Polanski’s Baby, she was both volatile and nonchalant.

The three-piece band from Nashville produced the type of garage and riot grrrl-inspired rock hymns fitting for an intimate stage setup, and a crowd grew, increasingly intrigued by Miller’s involved performance. Though most songs clocked in under the two-minute mark, the band was deftly efficient every moment they spent on stage. Lyrics were mostly half-sung, spoken or screamed, shining on tracks like “C.R.E.E.P.,” where Roman Polanski’s Baby’s flippant attitude came through with lines like, “The way you touch my hair just freaks me out.”

Megajoos accompanied them on tour, with a lead singer who donned an ape mask for the first half of the set. The two-piece band produced a surprisingly large sound, filling the room with rock songs consisting only of backing bass and drums.
