I wasn't going to miss Red Collar at this year's The Fest in Gainesville, even though it meant leaving Hot Water Music early. In fact, I was shooting HWM on stage (I'll post footage from that show tomorrow), so I had to hug my camera like a football and crowd surf my way over a couple hundred kids to get out of the venue. I ran across the street to Durty Nelly's, where Durham, N.C., band Red Collar was midway through its set.
Angie Norman captured audio while I shot them playing "The Orphanage" in the dark venue Oct. 28, 2011. You might remember Red Collar frontman Jay Kutchma from his Love Drunk video performance while being tattooed by Iron Brush in Lincoln last March. See him in his natural element here.
