Hear Nebraska Music Retreat | Near Bassett

The 2012 Nebraska Music Retreat is an opportunity for Nebraskan art enthusiasts to congregate; celebrating the state’s natural beauty while also serving as a commonplace for all who create, cover, photograph, record or appreciate music and art. It’s being held the weekend of Aug. 23-26 at the gorgeous Hutton Niobrara Sanctuary (http://www.niobrarasanctuary.org/location/) from Thursday evening to Sunday morning. Bring your camera, your instrument(s) of choice and your willingness to have a fantastic time. Sunscreen might be wise, too.

 

This year’s event will include merriment of many forms which will include but not be limited to live music around a campfire (to be recorded and shared via Hear Nebraska) and a Saturday of tubing down the breathtaking Niobrara River. Those taking part can also expect grilling, laughing, truck rides down dirt roads and late-night conversation. 

 

Please bring:

• Towels

• Meat for grilling

• Liquid materials for drinking

• T-shirts (or other clothing) as a canvas for a Nebraska Music Retreat screenprinted souvenir.

 

Last year’s event saw several wash-tub bass lines, cattle calls, tank-tans and even a baptism. We’re not quite sure what to expect this year.

 

The Niobrara Sanctuary features two houses for rent— the Lazy Easy Ranch House and the Hutton House. We'll be staying in the Lazy Easy, but can use the Hutton House if we have enough retreaters. Too rugged for a bed? There’s also plenty of camping space available at both houses, which are just a short drive away from one another.
