Local Filmmakers Showcase at Film Streams | Preview

by Jordan Minnick

Local music talent will be well represented in this year's Local Filmmakers Showcase at Film Streams. From a Thunder Power music video to a short directed by UUVVWWZ frontwoman Teal Gardner, musicians are starring, making and scoring. Anniversaire keys player and singer Aaron Jordan sounds off his first film score with Molly Zavitz's In Silence and Tears.

The black-and-white drama proved a learning experience for everyone working on it, Jordan says. Clocking in at around an hour, it was the by far the grandest filming endeavor to date for husband/wife filmmaking team Molly and Aaron Zavitz.

Jordan also called upon bandmate Megan Siebe to accompany parts of the score. The film's monochramatic nature called for minimal music, he says, as they took to evaluating the work of Philip Glass and his soundtrack for The Hours to get a sense of what they were looking for.

You can catch the Local Filmmakers Showcase, playing now through Thursday, Aug. 25 at Film Streams.
