They don't teach you this in college. Hell, much of what Lincoln Calling offered last week during the festival's ninth year is at best on the periphery of a journalism student's education.
Just imagine these syllabus entries: How to Capture Flying Spit on Camera, or How to Avoid Falling Down in a Mosh Pit. Of all the missed opportunities for class to visit downtown Lincoln on any given Thursday night, How to Use Video of a Drunk Bystander Who Interrupted Your Interview is the subject title I most sorely regret missing.
Turns out, though, leading with the unplanned part does more to display the humanity and heart of Chris Ford, aka Christopher the Conquered out of Des Moines, than anything from his well-spoken interview. Watch how Ford fairly treats the unnamed "designated driver" before we cut to his performance of "Let Us Not Confuse Our Thoughts With Our Beliefs," and later include his explication of the song's lyrics. Also read a review, and listen to more live audio from Ford's concert at Duffy's Tavern in our day three coverage of Lincoln Calling.
